50,000 people joined the Wave and called for the Government to take much more urgent and effective action on Climate Change.   I met up with the Lifeline and Positive TV, our sister organisation, on Saturday 5 December in London, UK to help hold the banner.

Im on the left with the bicycle!

I'm on the left with the bicycle!

Felix Gonzales, one of the UK filmmakers had the excellent idea to attach the banner to three bicycles.  This made the task of walking from Grosvenor Square to Parliament much easier!  We were even able to give a small boy a lift :) It also meant that Felix could leave, me, Ollie, Ali and Ben to take care of the banner and film the march in action.  The Lifeline/Positive TV banner was lovingly and expertly made by Morgan, an artist friend of Felix.  I think you will agree that it looks glorious and it definitely got people talking to us.  We were able to share how the lifeline is about connecting visions for a sustainable future and Positive TV is about creating a positive world :-)

Also there filming was Ruth Evans, the other UK filmmaker and introducing Becky Henderson our new presenter! (Yes, I’m stepping down from the 12 month journey – not an easy decision I can tell you and I’ll share the details in a separate blog ;)

It was amazing to be there and see thousands of people dressed in blue demanding a real deal on climate change.  The talks in Copenhagen start today until 18 December.  The Lifeline will be there filming reports on negotiations and protests from the 11 December.  All the action will be posted to our website as part of our mission to document sustainable action around the world.

Paradox Freestyles for The Lifeline

Paradox gave us an amazing freestyle, composed after reading our one-sheet on the project and wow, we are thrilled to share this burst of creative flow with you here.

Here’s more about Paradox in his own words:

After 15 years as a devotee of the rat race, at the not-so-tender age of 34, i was gifted with the realization that the money, power, status, sex and material gratification that the marketing people had promised would make me happy…wouldn’t. And so in a fit of peak, after a nervous breakdown/spiritual breakthrough (depending on your point of view) i gave up my £70K p.a. job in advertising and went to live under a tree in Battersea park. During those life changing 7 months, in the spring & summer of 2002, i sold the Big Issue magazine on the streets of Victoria and blissfully bumbled around Battersea like the bling-less bum i’d become. Why? Well, i had the bonkers idea that if i could go back to square one, start at ground zero (in other words become a nobody) and if i could let go of my conditioned beliefs about who i was and what constituted a “succesful” life, i’d be giving myself the opportunity to find an authentic answer to the question that had begun to plague me, day and night: What is the purpose of my life? 3 months into my decidedly desperate experiment, poetry began to pour relentlessly out of me like demonically possesed projectile vomit, (i’d never written a poem in my life before this)and 5 years later, i am astonished to find myself in the highly fortunate position of living the life i feel i was born to live…or more to the point…i’m beginning to get the hang, of getting out of the way, so that life can live me!!! The main benefit of my existential loafing is that it gives me the time and space to contemplate, create and collaberate with other artists and friends who are celebrating the beauty of unity in multiplicity, unusually, musically, cluelessly and beautifully

Phil shot this wonderful video and chopped up while in Kabul (Afghanistan) shooting up his follow up to “Afgahn Star”.  I’m posting it for him, but expect more great clips from the UK Team soon!

On Saturday 26 September about 11pm, I turned up at the Earthdance in Brixton with my boyfriend Alex Thomas and my friend Ant Hall, who I’ve known since when I was at University of Hull.  Phil Stebbing, the founder of the Lifeline and Arianna LaPenne, from the American Lifeline team soon arrived.   Plus Sarah Harrison the lifeline fundraiser/sponsor guru turned up a bit later.  Earthdance was part of the Global Dance Festival for Planetary Peace.  It was a wonderful mixed event that combined the spiritual element of peace with a night of trance music and lots of dancing.   I really enjoyed the upstairs bad a*$! funky House music and electro breaks!

@ 12 o’clock midnight gmt each party around the globe stopped and held a worldwide prayer for peace uniting about 150 cities in 50 countries:

we are all one global family
all colours, all races
one world united
we dance for our peace and\the
peace of all nations
peace for our communities
and peace within ourselves
as we join together
across the world
let us connect heart to heart
throughout our diversity
we recognise unity
we recognise peace
our love is the power
to transform our world
let us send it out now …

His Holiness the Dalai Lama said “this profound and powerful moment affirms the feeling that we are the same human being all sharing the same planet.”

Good news is that half the profits from the event will be donated to the Lifeline and the other half are going to the Big Issue  :-)  We are waiting to find out how much was raised.

London Lifeline Launch On 9.9.9.

September 11th, 2009

What a day, what a night and glad to say… “we are officially launched and the knot is tied”.

The whole UK Lifeline crew made it to the picnic, on what turned out to be a chilly summers day in Hyde Park at the Serpentine.  Our numbers grew throughout the afternoon with a variety of people turning up. We even had a shawoman and her part wolf joining the circle.

Zeina was filming proceedings and interviewing and probing. On the whole it was a relaxed affair and at 4pm we had our lifeline rope ceremony and we took it in turns to read out the Declaration For All Life on Earth. People then shared their thoughts on the future including a moving speech from the main organiser of the UK’s Big Green Gathering. He relayed his feeling that the environmental and peace movement has been creating amazing positive change ever since the 60’s, changing what seemed the impossible and we can do it again the environmental deadlines stacked up against us.
